Why does Jesus look like the Eye of Sauron?
Idgie: “Why is there a vagina?” (repeat three times)
It’s the fifth wound of Christ, which actually has been officially compared to a vagina multiple times in Christian history! In fact, there are many Medieval works of art that portray Jesus “giving birth” to new creation or to resurrected people through the wound in his side. (The Gospel of John says that water poured out from his side, which many connect to amniotic fluid)
A really awesome classmate of mine (who graduated this past spring) created an orthodox Episcopal liturgy that used feminine language for God & Christ and was based around the fifth wound for her senior project. I need to ask her for a copy of it.
